Ethris GmbH, coordinator of our NoVir project, has secured €30 million in financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB), with backing from the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (DG HERA). The Munich-based clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneers next-generation RNA therapeutics and vaccines. The additional investment will support the further clinical development of mRNA-based products for pandemic preparedness and chronic respiratory diseases.
The financing is provided under HERA Invest, which is funded through the EU4Health programme and supports research and development projects addressing the most pressing cross-border health threats. It will further drive the development of Ethris’s therapeutic candidate ETH47, an mRNA-based antiviral being developed for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as ETH52 and ETH53, which focus on mucosal influenza vaccines and pandemic preparedness.
ETH47 is also at the heart of NoVir, where several preclinical and clinical studies are investigating its potential against respiratory and systemic viral infections.
The financing agreement was recently signed in a ceremony at Ethris’ headquarters in Munich in the presence of representatives from the European Investment Bank and DG HERA. In their statements, Nicola Beer, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, and Laurent Muschel, Deputy Head of DG HERA, both highlighted the importance of the investment for European health innovation and pandemic preparedness.
We are delighted that ETH47, which is being advanced through NoVir, can now continue its development within the broader framework of HERA Invest financing.
