RELiEF

Recycling of Lithium from Secondary Raw Materials and Further

Description

Lithium (Li) metal has been in high demand. With the increasing popularity of e-mobility, this trend has only accelerated. Despite lithium recycling being an established process, an estimated 27 % of the current global lithium production still turns into waste. Current recycling technology is focused on recovering Li from battery scrap, while hardly any focus and technological development is going towards other Li sources. RELiEF proposes an integrated recycling facility for Li from secondary raw material sources with continuous processing to produce battery materials. Li wastes will be reduced by more than 70 %, which will instead be recycled into high value battery-grade material.
